Straight-up pricing, showed up when they said, and ground three stumps flat. The yard looks better than before.

The Trees We Take Down in Sacramento

Sacramento, known as the city of trees, has a variety of tree species that change the job.

Valley oaks are the ones people hate to lose, and we try not to lose them. But mature valley oaks shed massive limbs in summer heat with no warning summer branch drop and when one is failing over a house, it comes down in pieces with a crane or a rigging plan, not a felling cut.

Silver maples and Modesto ashes were planted all over Sacramento's postwar neighborhoods, and they're at the end of their run. Weak wood, bad structure, decay at the unions. These are our most common removals in Arden-Arcade, Carmichael, and Land Park.

Sycamores get anthracnose, drop limbs, and grow enormous. Removal usually means a tight rigging job over a fence line.

Eucalyptus are heavy, oily, and unpredictable under load. They need experienced crews.

Palms Washingtonias mostly go up 60 feet, get skinned, and eventually become a climbing and drop-zone problem near power lines.

Redwoods and pines planted in small suburban lots eventually outgrow them. Root plate versus foundation, every time.

When a Tree Needs to Come Down

Not every problem tree is a removal. But some are, and waiting on those gets expensive. Call us if you're seeing any of this.

  • Lean that's gotten worse. A tree that's always leaned is usually fine. A tree that's started leaning has root failure underneath it.

  • Mushrooms or conks at the base. Fungal fruiting bodies at the trunk flare mean decay inside the wood you can't see.

  • Cracks in the trunk or a major fork. Vertical splits and included bark at a V-crotch are how big limbs come apart.

  • Deadwood in the upper canopy. Bare branches up top on an otherwise green tree usually mean the root system is failing.

  • Roots lifting hardscape. Driveways, walkways, foundations, and sewer laterals. Once it starts, it doesn't stop.

  • Storm damage. A tree that's lost a third of its canopy rarely recovers into a stable structure.

If it's none of those, say so when you call. Plenty of trees we look at need crown thinning and deadwood removal, not a stump.
